White Shoe Brigade

The Australian obsession with the beach is explored, not through the image of the bronzed sunbaker, but through a set of formal high heels. Photographer Mari Hirata once worked as an interpreter for a Japanese wedding company based on the Gold Coast. Her work reflects her journey through the sand dunes, reflecting on the specific nature of this part of the Gold Coast, the attraction of this area for the Japanese and the peculiarly cross-cultural experience of a wedding in a foreign country.
